Rachel Chinn

I have been dancing since I was four years old. I fell in love with dance at a very early age. In fact, I can remember when I was three years old, my mother called my sister's dance teacher to ask if I could start taking lessons.  I was very upset when she told me that the teacher said I couldn't start because I was not four years old yet! From then until now, I have been very passionate about dance. I have been lucky to be a part of some pretty cool things because I dance.  I was a featured dancer in The Miss Kansas Pageant one of the last years it was televised.  I have been featured dancing the mambo in a commercial for Spangles Mango Mambo Smoothies, which can still be viewed on their website. I compete in ballroom professionally with my partner Steven Bohling, in the American Smooth category. Last January in Savannah, Georgia, we placed 2nd in Rising Star and 3rd in Open Pro. We will soon be competing in the American Rhythm category as well. My partner and I have also been the featured dancers in 'Carmen' and 'The Merry Widow', both productions of the Wichita Grand Opera. I am also an actress and have recently been both singing, dancing, and acting in 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' and 'A Magical Crown Christmas', both with the Crown Uptown professional dinner theater of Wichita, KS.  I have also been a featured dancer for five years in a local show called Art Aide, which is the largest Aids fundraiser in the state of Kansas.  It is a combination runway modeling, hair modeling, singing and dancing extravaganza! In addition to performing, I also like to choreograph.  I have recently choreographed two shows for Wichita Community Theater. 'A, My Name Is Alice', and 'Almighty Bob'. I was nominated for a Mary Jane Teall Award for my choreography in 'A, My Name Is Alice'. I also frequently choreograph for and perform in Care To Dance Ballroom and Latin Studio's 'Dancing with the Local Stars' , which has run for five seasons now. Care To Dance is the Studio that I have been an instructor at for almost 5 years now. I have also been very lucky to study under some amazing coaches in the ballroom world. John Swick, Toni Redpath and Michael Mead, Kasia Kozak and Donald Johnson and Jean-Marc Genereaux and France Mousseau are a few of them. I am always looking for new and interesting ways to continue my own training as a dancer, and hope to inspire others to do the same. I absolutely enjoy spreading the love of dance!
